5 ideas about a movie: A Bad Moms Christmas

Movie reviews

Hello!

Welcome to the start of the Christmas Season (yup, Halloween was yesterday)! We are opening it with a festive female comedy sequel – A Bad Moms Christmas!

IMDb summary:  A Bad Moms Christmas follows our three under-appreciated and over-burdened women as they rebel against the challenges and expectations of the Super Bowl for moms: Christmas.

  1. 2016’s Bad Moms was a delightfully surprising comedy that was made super cheaply and earned a lot of money. Thus, STX Entertainment rushed out a themed sequel in just over a year. Interestingly, in a few weeks, we will get another Christmas comedy sequel – Daddy’s Home 2. Who would have thought that 2017 is gonna be the year of gendered and parental Christmas comedies?
  2. A Bad Moms Christmas was written and directed by the duo responsible for the first film as well as The Hangover movies – Scott Moore and Jon Lucas. I enjoyed the writing for the film quite a lot. It did have a lot of the same elements as the first film only in a different – now a Christmas – setting. However, the addition of the moms’ moms was great and made for some amazing moments of humor, especially in the varied messed up relationships between the older moms and their daughters/moms.
  3. The jokes, in general, were not the most sophisticated but, honestly, they didn’t have to be. The heightened reality/far-fetched cartoonish situations are what make makes movies like this one enjoyable. And A Bad Moms Christmas was definitely fun and entertaining. While it could not really be seen as a regular Christmas movie (aka one that’s appropriate for the whole family), the picture still had some traditional Christmasy heart and warmth to it. It also had a lovely message of compromise.
  4. The directing was also great. I wonder how much of the situational humor was directed and how much improvised, though. The editing was spectacular too. I loved the western parody sequence in the trampoline park and the cheesy usage of the slow-mo. The inclusion of Christmas music was also tonally and seasonally appropriate. The credits sequence was also cute and cheesy.
  5. A Bad Moms Christmas assembled a fun cast. Mila Kunis (Jupiter Ascending), Kristen Bell, and Kathryn Hahn were great once again, but, this time around, they were a bit outshined by ‘their moms’: Christine Baranski (I adored her character and also loved that she had a singing scene – it reminded me of her Mamma Mia! role and also made me even more excited for the sequel to my guilty pleasure movie musical); Cheryl Hines (cutely creepy); and Susan Sarandon (unapologetically crazy).

To summarise: was this film a revelation? No. Was it entertaining and helped me to get into a Christmas spirit way too early? Absolutely. I had a chill and chucklesome time at the cinema and listened to the Michael Buble Christmas album for the first time this year on my way home.

Rate: 3.25/5

Swimming Marathon: Platelee 2015

Sports

Hello!

This past weekend, I and a bunch of my friends went camping by the Plateliai lake (wiki). That lake and the whole Plateliai town (wiki) is a very special place for all the members of the swimming community, which I and most of my friends are a part of. 34 years ago, the first open water swimming marathon in my country was organized in that particular lake. There is only one person, who is still alive, and who has swum in all of the marathons to date.

The first time, I and my family went to Plateliai was in 2004. Back then, I was only 7 years old and couldn’t swim, but my dad was a veteran swimmer, so he participated in the marathon. Since then, my family has been going to that event every year, and I participated in my first Platelee marathon in 2010.

Plateliai swimming marathon is also very huge party for teenager/young adult swimmers. It is a whole weekend of partying with your closest friends, doing craziest things without any consequences.

The weather this year was quite terrible, air temperature reached only around 20 degrees Celsius (68 F), while the water temperature was even lower – 15 or 16 degrees Celsius(59 to 61 F) . My whole body froze while competing in a 1.8 km distance. My friends swam the longer 3.5 km distance and was freezing even more by the time she finished. The wind was also really strong, so there were massive waves in the lake. Around 140 swimmers didn’t allow the cold weather and water to stop them from swimming and participated in the event.

All of the swimmers  received a commemorative T-Shirt (like always), a sticker with the marathon logo and a medal, intricately carved from wood. (Photos below).

Although, I am not a social person and kinda hate partying, I’m really glad that I attended the Platelee marathon and stayed for all the crazy after-party and pre-party stuff. Now, I just need to sleep for a few days to get myself back in shape. Also, I need to wash a lot of clothes and dry out my sleeping bag – during the night from Saturday from Sunday the rain was pouring non-stop, so we were practically sleeping in a pool of water. However,  a really cute cat woke me up in the morning by touching my nose with her paw. Gladly, she didn’t have her nails out. One of my friends told me that the cat sneaked into the tent through the crack and, since all of us were sleeping, that friend didn’t want to risk waking others up by shoo-ing the cat or yelling. So, we just had a pet stay over for a night.

Even if you are not a swimmer and just a regular tourist, Plateliai town and lake is still an amazing place to visit. I have always enjoyed sitting on a footbridge and reading a book or just watching the boats and yachts pass by. The lake is also full of unexplored islands which you can reach by hiring a boat or taking a ride on a water bicycle. In addition, there is a plethora of cozy little hotels to spend the night in, if you are not a type of person who likes camping.

Anyway, I hope you had a great weekend like I did. These past 4 days have been a highlight of my summer. You can find last years coverage of this swimming marathon here. More photos from the marathon are on Facebook.

Bye!

Outdoor #OOTD + A/W 14 trends

Beauty&Fashion

Hi!

I hope all of you are having a great Sunday! For this week’s fashion post, I decided to show you my favorite (recently) piece of clothing in action – my new parka. I have already done a post about it. (Click here). But now, I want to show you some photos of it in a normal light and how does it look when I put it on. I paired it with simple rolled up blue jeans and high top Converse All Stars sneakers. On my neck, you can see a mustard (orang-y brown) color knitted snood which I made myself. (DIY!!!). (Sorry for the weird color in the close-up photo – snood is much brighter in real life, like in the full outfit photo).

I am in love with this parka and I can’t wait for the weather to get cold so that I could wear it all the time. Moreover, according to GLAMOUR UK magazine’ September issue’s article by Lucy Walker, military details, edgy street-wear, faux-fur and hoods are trending big time and this parka nails all of these trends! 1 parka – 4 trends. What is more, I like the fact that high fashion isn’t taking itself as seriously as it did before. Ironic bags, T-shirts and dresses at MOSCHINO look cool and brighten my mood every time I see them. (Video from the runway show by ELLE.) I have full wardrobe of colorful slogan T-shirts which I am going to pair with neutral black or grey skirts, jeans or trousers so as not to upstage the main piece – fun T-shirt. In addition, knits are in fashion once again and a few shelves of sweaters and cardigans definitely won’t stay in my wardrobe unloved and unworn. Space elements are also hot this season and as a huge Star Wars and Guardians of the Galaxy (movie review) fan, I will finally be able to wear merchandise and looks stylish.

I hope you liked this short post about A/W 14 trends and how I will wear them. What are your staple pieces for A/W and are there any trends you fancy this season? Have a great week!

Sightseeing: Turkey

Sightseeing

Hello!

I hope that you are having a great Monday wherever you live. Currently, it is Monday evening in Lithuania and I am relaxing after a long hard day at school. The school stuff wasn’t really that hard but I am also sick, I have a cold and terrible headache so that certainly didn’t add anything nice to my day.

But enough of my ranting, let’s get on with a blog post. Today, I am going to tell you about my holidays in Turkey from October 2013.Since it was almost a year ago, I am sorry if I don’t remember all the details.

We started our journey in Vilnius airport. There, on a cold Monday morning we boarded a Small planet travel agency plane which took us to Antalya – one of the biggest resort cities in Turkey. Turkey’s culture is so different than Lithuania’s: there are people everywhere, they are selling stuff just on the street and they are shouting really loudly. Everything is colorful and the smells of fresh fruits are mixing with traffic fumes. It was a lot to take in at first. I wasn’t staying in Antalya. My hotel – La Mer Art – was in Goynuk – a small village near Kemer. A short bus trip took me and my parents there and when we finally got checked into a hotel it was already dinner time.

The food was amazing. You could choose form several different cuisines, diet or vegetarian tables. And the sweets! They are so sweet, even too sweet for my taste. The same evening we wondered around for a bit and went to the beach to see how the moon was hovering above the Mediterranean Sea.

The next morning, after a very late and filling breakfast we went to the beach, sunbathed, swam and went diving until lunch. After lunch we were laying by the pool and just relaxing after yesterday’s flight. Around 4-5 o’clock when it have already gotten pretty cold (The sun would go over the mountains and the temperature would fall down about 10 degrees Celsius) me and my dad would go to the gym and exercise for a few hours (Work out until all the calories of those sweets are burned) and then go to the tennis court for a quick match. My mom would go enjoy the hotel’s spa or read a book by the pool.

After dinner, my family and another family of our friends which we were travelling with would sit in a bar or in lounge area which was filled with Russian tourists mostly. The animation team of the hotel was amazing; there were always something to do or an interesting performance to watch in the evening.

I pretty much spent all my week the same way I spent my first day. But we also visited nearby Kemer city and walked around for a bit, bought some national Turkey sweets – Turkish delight (lokum) to bring home and I also bought some commemorative postcards (photo below). (Be careful while shopping in Turkey – they like to sell a lot of fake designers’ stuff!) Plus, we also visited the Goynuk village where our hotel was situated, tasted some traditional Turkish kebab. One morning we woke up really early and went to see how the sun was rising from the sea. We also went on a water motorbike ride which was super fun and exciting.

The surrounding nature and view was astonishing. We stayed near Taurus Mountains, so you would walk out into hotel’s garden and see the sea on one side and mountains on the other side. There were also a lot of palm trees and colorful flowers as well.

I was really sad to leave Turkey. It was the best holiday’s I ever had and I definitely want to come back there again.

Top 4 Favorite YouTubers (Part 2)

Uncategorized

Hello!

A couple of months ago, I have done a blog post on youtubers. It was one of my early ones, so don’t judge. That time, I have made a TOP 6 list because I couldn’t fit them all into Top 5. But since 6 is a peculiar number for Top Lists, I decided to do Part 2 and bring you TOP 4 list of my favorite YouTube entertainers.

You can read part 1 of the list here: TOP 6

So my TOP 4 consists of some existential crisis, some science, and some cinema and on top of all that – a little bit of everything.

  1. (7) Danisnotonfire – this is channel owned by a British youtuber Dan Howell since 2009. I have watched his videos for over a year but recently I can’t seem to turn them off. I can definitely relate to his existential thoughts, emotional connections with fictional world, lack of socialism and communication with real people and never ending failures. Dan lives with his best friend Phil (also a youtuber – Amazingphil) and they also both host a show on BBC Radio 1. Dan has almost 4 million subscribers, so go over there and join the Internet Support Group!  Subscribe to Dan!

  1. (8) ASAPScience – is a science channel which belongs to 2 Canadians Mitchell Moffit and Gregory Brown. Their videos explain hard but interesting scientific questions and facts by using stop motion and painting or writing on a white board. Recently, they created a second channel AsapThought and both channels combined have over 3 million subscribers. Not long ago, they came out as gay to the Internet and been receiving a lot of hate. It makes me super mad to read comments like that when we live in a XXI century. Moreover, their sexuality has absolutely nothing to do with the content of their videos. I highly recommend you to join them here and challenge your mind! Subscribe to ASAPScience!

  1. (9) JeremyJahns – Jeremy is a movie reviewer since 2009. I like his style of reviewing – very energetic, upbeat and straight to the point. His grading system is also super fun – Awesometacular, Worth buying on Blu-ray, Good time no alcohol required, Good time if you are drunk, Won’t remember in T-minus () days and Dogshit. He is a huge Lord of the Rings fan and believes that the trilogy is one the greatest movies ever made so that is also one aspect of life we agree on. Join his half a million subs here: Subscribe!

  1. (10) TheFineBros – this is a huge channel which belongs Brothers Benny and Rafi Fine. Their channel is actually the first channel I’ve ever subscribed to. I have been watching them for over 3 years now. Their most famous shows are Kids, Teens, Elders and Yotubers React – where they show viral videos to a group of people and ask for their opinion. The channel is not only entertaining but also a really great way to spread social messages and use modern technologies in a good way. Their other shows include sitcom MyMusic, Last Moments of Relationships and Spoilers. Recently, they launched brand new React channel which has a brand new content: reactions to food, technologies, lyrics; gaming videos and advice videos. They also have a deal with Nickelodeon to produce a React TV show. Their channel has around 10 million subs and they also have a group of employees at Fine Bros Entertainment. So, as you can see – Youtube is not just one man’s work. If are not a subscriber yet, go do that now: Main channel / React channel

So, I hope you like part 2 of my favorite youtubers list. Now it is officially a TOP 10 but I think it might be even longer in the future.

P.S. This is just my opinion, I hope you don’t get angry because of my choices. This blog is zero hate zone!
