Sightseeing: Kaunas Lagoon

Sightseeing

Hello!

Greetings my dear readers! Summer is coming to a close, so I decided to spend the last warm days outside, hanging out with my family. I’ll miss them and warm weather when I move to Scotland next month.

On Sunday, I, my parents and my aunts as well as my little cousin went on a boat ride in Kaunas Lagoon (wiki). It’s an artificial lake, which was created as a consequence of damming the Nemunas River when building a Hydroelectric Power Plant. Nowadays, a park surrounds the lagoon and there are also a few beaches on the shores of it. People enjoy taking a walk in the aforementioned park as well as swimming and sunbathing in the man-made lake.

Some of other activities that Kaunas Yacht Club, which is located near the Kaunas lagoon, provides is renting a boat and that’s exactly what we did. I was always interested in how sailing works, so it’s was awesome to finally educate myself on that topic. The weather was also amazing: the sun was shining brightly and the temperature was around 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit). However, although it was a hot day, the wind above the water was quite strong, so a nice breeze was cooling us down during the whole yacht trip. I love to walk around lakes and see the nature from that angle, but it is wonderful to see it from the other side as well.

Afterward, we had a lovely picnic on a beach. The water was very warm and I was sad that I didn’t bring a swimsuit. Since I was wearing a dress, I at least was able to get my feet wet and wade a little.

There were are a lot of people relaxing by the lagoon because it was a weekend. My little cousin loves motorcycles, so he was mesmerized by people riding water-motorcycles. It was a truly perfect day.

If you ever get a chance to come to Kaunas, consider visiting Kaunas Lagoon. It’s a great place to spend your summer afternoon in as well as an amazing retreat from the city during the other seasons. Autumn is especially pretty near the lagoon when all the leaves of the park’s trees turn brown and yellow. Skating on the frozen water during the winter is also an option, just be careful. Lastly, when the spring comes and all the plants start to bloom, Kaunas Reservoir turns into a magical place.

Productive weekend

Sports

Hello!

I used to think that nothing really happens in my native city of Kaunas but this weekend proved me wrong…very very wrong. Not only were there a wide variety of cultural events (Loreen concert on Friday, Jazz festival throughout the whole weekend), but also a plethora of sport’s competitions and movements! And I participated in almost all of them! The weather was also amazing! Spring has finally come after 6 months of rain and snow! It was like 20 degrees Celsius (68 F) the whole time!

On Saturday morning, I attended the marathon “Azuolyno begimas” (“Oak Grove Run”). This was the first time that this event was organized and almost 1000 athletes participated in it. Some of them chose the half marathon distance, others 10 km or 5 km like me. Organizers also provided the spectators and children with fun games and live music.

We were running in the 2nd largest park of Lithuania. You can find more info about that location here: wiki

On Saturday afternoon, I went to the 10th annual bicycle parade of Kaunas by accident. I knew that this event would take place during the weekend but I thought that I would have no energy to cycle 20 km after running. But surprise-surprise, I had the needed energy and joined a group of 500 cyclist in a trip around Kaunas. We started our journey in a city center, cycled out of the city and then finished our route in the Old Town of Kaunas, near the Kaunas Castle.

This was my first time riding a bike this year! I also just only registered to be a part of my city’s team in the European Cycling Challenge and I will also cycle in my 3rd bicycle marathon during the month of May.

The next day, on Sunday, I had another running competition to participate in. It was the 3rd annual Kaunas Half-Marathon. I participated in all of them to date. 1600 athletes were in attendance. A few hundred of them ran 21 km, around 300 – 10 km distance and at least 800 – the 5 km distance which I have chosen as well. Those who are just starting to get into running could participate in 2.5 km Fun Run event – this one also attracted at least a couple hundred people.

Once again we ran in Oak Grove park, however, the track was a bit different. My time on Sunday was better than on Saturday which I was really happy about!

Bellow you will find a photo of all my commemorative medals and runner’s numbers which I’ve received this weekend!! Have a great week! I’m going to the Avengers premiere on Thursday, so my review should be up on Friday. For now, refresh your memory by reading my latest Marvel movie review here. Bye!

Thrift haul (Klaipėda)

Beauty&Fashion

Hello!

Do you remember that I’ve promised to do a thrift haul? Well, I’m keeping my promise!

So, last weekend I visited my aunt who lives in Klaipeda (sightseeing post about that here). Both she and I love thrift-ing, so she took me to the best second-hand stores in her town. We went to at least 5 shops but all of them were from one of two chains of stores: Rubija or Humana (their webpage). Humana has different prices for different clothes and Rubija weights the clothes and you pay for the kilograms and not for individual pieces.

I got way too many tops and a pair of boots which I am extremely excited about. Disclaimer: I am not showing off! I just want to show you that you can get nice stuff on a tight budget. I only paid approximately 10 euros for all of the following:

Firstly, I’ve got this blue and white plaid wide shirt. It’s from the Atmosphere brand. I love wearing shirts like these and have been living in this particular one this whole week. It’s so soft and comfortable and it literally looks good this everything!

Next, I’ve got a simple high-neck grey T-shirt (inspired by Grace Helbig). It’s from a brand SOHO.

Red is one of my favorite colors, so I bought this simple top by Hampton Republic.

Jean jackets are a must for me during spring and summer, so, I felt brave and got this white one! I thought about doing some DIY on it, maybe some tie-dye but I really don’t want to ruin it because it looks nice as it is. Brand – Holiday.

As you might already know, I am a huge GaGa fan so I picked up this black T-shirt with her face on it. I have actually seen her perform live ! I’ve been to one of her Born This Way Ball concerts and this T-shirt is from the merchandise line of that particular tour! I paid cents for it when I could have paid at least 50 euros for it during the concert! A bargain!

P.S. I’ve the same picture that is on the T-shirt as a poster on my wall.

I get dizzy by looking at these next 2 items. The first one is slightly cropped and quite wide stripy top from NEXT. it looks really nice with high waisted pants and skater skirts!

Second item, which induces dizziness, is this white and black no sleeves top with a pattern made of oval shapes. It hangs really nicely, though, it has quite deep cut at the front. However, it pairs up nicely with tuxedo pants! Brand – essence.

Second to last piece was a nod to my childhood! I grew up with Disney movies, I still love them (review of the new Cinderella), I love sporty style, so, this was a perfect blend of all the things I love. It’s a basketball type mesh top with Minnie on it! The back is completely white, so, I’ve got a few white tank tops to wear underneath it because it is very see-through.

And the purchase which I am the happiest about is these Mod 70s inspired boots! (BTW, Mod 70s are on trend this year). I almost didn’t get them, I actually walked out of the store and went back just to get them! They have a white heel and sole and they also have cut-outs at the back! I have only now noticed that one of them is missing a strap but I can fix that: I am planing to make a strap out of a simple black belt.

So, these are all the things I bought! I hope you liked this haul! I will probably do OOTD post next month and a few of these piece will be featured there too.! Have a nice day!

R.I.P Oscar de la Renta

Beauty&Fashion

Yesterday, the world has lost a truly inspirational and iconic designer – Oscar de la Renta. He died at age 82 from cancer. Throughout his life, the Dominican designer worked with Cristobal Balenciaga, dressed first lady Jacqueline Kennedy and established his company in New York in 1965 – that’s only a few of his many achievements.
De la Renta’s signature was timeless femininity in his designs: elegant and flattering silhouettes, full girly skirts, dresses cinched at the waist, floral patterns and soft, pastel colors. His ready-to-wear creations made label Oscar de la Renta known and beloved by many celebrities, he was an inspiration to other designers and an idol to the simple fans of fashion, like me. Although my personal style is quite masculine and edgy, I adore the softness and feminine feeling Oscar’s clothes bring. I don’t think I could pull off such grace and delicacy.
In honor of Oscar de la Renta, I decided to share with you my favorite designs from his collections (pre-fall, fall, spring and resort) from these past few years (2011-2015). Photos are taken from style.com site.

Easter + decorations and DIY ideas!!

Uncategorized

Good afternoon everybody!

First and foremost I would like to congratulate all of you on this beautiful occasion – Easter. No matter whether you are religious or not, this is a beautiful, spring-time family celebration. I hope that all of you have an awesome day and the pleasant rest of spring 🙂
The weather in Lithuania is amazing. It’s like 20C or 68F outside, the sky is clear with a few puffy white clouds. However, the wind is pretty strong, but it is not that cold.
I spent my Easter at my aunt’s house. All of my nearest and dearest family members came here; we shared a nice Sunday lunch, exchanged small gifts and had some quality time with each other. I was so excited to see my little cousin – he is almost 5 months old and just too cute.
My aunt got me this really lovely gift from Easter Bunny (This is tradition in our family). I got CACHET dark chocolate bar with lemon and black pepper flavoring. I love milk chocolate, but sometimes I like to snack on something stronger, that has a rich and interesting taste. Lemon and black pepper in my opinion – is a great, kind of spicy combination that compliments dark chocolate so well. She also got me two of Manhattan Lotus Effect long-lasting nail polishes in this cute purple box with a bow tie that has polka dots on it. One of the polishes is this grey-ish/blue-ish color that has some dark undertones. I think it is going to look amazing with more metallic, dark outfits. Another color is really spring like – light pink with a slight touch of cream. The grey one is 33G, and pink one – 55K.
Bellow I also added couple of photos from our Easter table, a picture of a home decoration and a DIY collage on how to color eggs while using onion shells. All of the eggs are different, unique and most importantly – natural, because they are made while using organic products – onions – and just a tiny pinch of chemical egg paint. Enjoy 🙂
